The 41mm. steel case is gorgeous & unpolished and the lug bevels are as sharp as a razor; this watch has been well looked after all its life. The reference numbers are correctly punched on the inside of the case back, the outside of which is engraved with the Omega Hippocampus and Certified high pressure waterproof SEAMASTER, it has the original glass with the OMEGA mark to the centre and the original winder and the original luminous bezel. |

Original dial in beautiful unrestored and very well preserved condition. All the lume is original and has a lovely aged caramel colour, the hands are original with the original lume, the dial is signed Omega Automatic Seamaster 300. |

The Omega Seamaster 300 was introduced in 1957, it was developed as a tool watch for professional and amateur divers alike. The reference 165024 was introduced in 1962. This model was commissioned by the British Royal Navy as well, which speaks volumes about its performance as a dive watch. As noted on the caseback engraving (“Certified High Pressure Waterproof"), the case was protected from all kinds of rough elements that would be encountered in any underwater mission, ensuring water resistance up to 200 meters. Just as with Speedmasters from the same era, the cases for this model were initially produced by Hugenin Frères (HF) and later by Centrale Boîtes (CB), with this example produced by the former, as denoted by the “HF” stamp on the inside caseback. The wide-set black bakelite bezel is another element that makes this watch attractive. The bezel is stylistically reminiscent of another famous dive watch – the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms – and makes the watch appear larger than its actual size. The dial is focused on legibility, with large luminous indexes and the prominent sword hands just like one finds in the much sought-after Rolex Mil-Sub model. This example combines all the design elements vintage dive watch collectors love rolled into one, with a beautiful and consistent patina that makes it one not to be missed. |
